Water Feature ideas please
Hi all,
I've finally completed my project (well almost)
Please see picture attached. Pond, stackstone and waterproofing all done and just filled it with water and so far so good.
Can I please have some suggestions to where to from here? As much as I'd love some koi's in there I know that my simple filter will not be up to the task of keeping it clean. Also, i've elected to fill water near top and from past experience I know koi's love to jump.
Thinking a few goldfish, some plants (or not), perhaps 3 points along pond length where I can have water sprouting up and some lighting where the water sprouts up to give an illuminated water bubbling effect.
Option 2 would be to put some square terrazo/concrete pots in the water, have water sprouting from there and then overflowing over the pots and then back into the pond.
Option 3 would be have a sculpture (perhaps and nude lying down (floating effect) or standing and making that the highlight of the feature.
I need to do something with the floor, perhaps some large stones or stuff.
As you can see I'm lost with how to finish this project off.
Please help.
Thanks,
Julie

water coming down the wall always looks good, but obviously depends on whether you have access up and behind.
there are filters that are under water available, also ones that can be mounted seperately and piped back - about $150 for a filter for a pond that size with koi.
koi jumping is darwin in action - some are dumb and suicide! once they are settled they are usually fine (had no jumping incidents in my latest incarnation)
pond is narrow, so water height is not an option - too much will be blown away (unless stright down wall) - so use plants for height - irises or those green ball thingies. a water outlet just below the surface looks great lit directly from below, though needs a stronger pump.
personally not a fan of overflowing pots, as there is little noise or moevement and hard to light well - oh and distract from the wall and pond which are already features in thmeselves.Last edited by RufflyRustic; 24th March 2008 at 09:59 PM. Reason: added

Awsome water feature, you wouldn't have any more pics of the build, i would love to see how it was all constructed.

glass pebbles of different colours ( I would show you my simple three tiered pond but its bone dry and needs cleaniing at the time of writting this).....in the bottom with submersable lighting from each front corner shining up onto the wall, which has a slow cascade coming down it from above ( recycling )...would give a ripple effect on the surface and shiny hints from the floor of the tank, while pleasantly calming the ears ..with soft running water noises .....simple, effective , and did I mention low maintenance ?.......well that too

you could filter the water through an aquaponics setup..
have the fish waste feed plants such as herbs or ferns etc..
something along these lines, http://www.backyardaquaponics.com/
Himzo. There's no such thing as too many Routers
