    Default Bearers for decking

I'm currently replacing a hardwood timber deck with treated pine. At first I thought that bearers were ok and that I'd only have to replace joists and decking, but now I'm not so sure.

Piers are 2.8 m apart. Would I get away with 140X45 or 190X45 bearers?

Alternatively, what size bearer do i need for this sort of span?

    Bearers are 1.5m apart.

    Many thanks in anticipation.

To check we are on the same page

Bearers are spanning 2.8m with a 1.5m load width?

If so using treated pine i'd go 240 x 45 bearer if housed into a post to brace it.. If sitting on a pier i would hazard to say your running your members the wrong way ... the bearers are better to run the 1.5 way and let the joists carry 2.8 as if your bearer is too tall it will be prone to falling over if sitting on top of a brick pier

Joists should technically be 140 x 45 for pine as 90 x 45 only goes 1100 for single span or 1300 for continuous

    hope this helps

    cheers utemad
