Exhaust fan in bathroom

Hi all,
I need to install a Bathroom exhaust fan. I had the powerpoint installed in the roof during construction so all i need to do is cut the hole and plug it in.
Is there any rules as to where you can/cannot put these things? i.e. how close can they go to lights/ walls , can they go directly above the actual shower?
Im in QLD if that changes anything

Above the shower is best place to install it.

IMHO opinion that would be the last place I would install it.

Had one right above the shower, after you finish your shower and you're drying yourself, drip drip drip...........

Especially in winter, not a pleasant feeling.

Our is now in the middle of the bathroom, one of those 3in1s, great place for it, never have a mirror fog up either.

Might be wrong here, but I seem to recall reading somewhere that its illegal to install a fan above the shower unless its 12V, maybe one of the sparkies can weight in here.

I third that motion. I would not put it directly above the shower though.

Early days but we have installed a 3 in one IXL. it is located outside the shower door in the middle of the bathroom so that the heatlamps are on you when you are drying off etc. Works a treat and mirror not fogging at all. Mind you the weather in Adelaide has not been cold yet to try it out conclusively. It certainly removes the steam vapour very effectively.

In my opinion (hopefully the last one here), don't install directly above the shower. Install just out of the shower space as the whirlwind the fan creates is not great...it creates quite a chill. Maybe, 500mm away from shower is good placement.

Hi,

I had it mentioned in one of my posts around a couple of years ago that at that time you were not allowed to have an extraction unit placed above the shower area - if I remember correctly this may only be law in Victoria. This was because someone had died as a result of a fan falling into the shower area and they picked it up with their wet hands - resulting in electrocution. I had my 3 way IXL unit placed in the middle of the bathroom and has no trouble extracting the steam from the room.
