    Default recoating deck...help!

    Hi guys

I recoated my (mostly undercover) deck yesterday afternoon with Feast and Watson decking oil after cleaning with Feast and Watson Woodclean (left to dry for 2 days).

It's the second time I've recoated, the last time I applied 2 coats with a brush and all was OK. This time I applied the first coat with a roller.

It seems to have not dried completely, and is a little tacky. I must have put it on too thick. The temperature has been about 30 degrees today/ I just tried to wipe off a small area with a rag dampened in turps, but doesn't seem to make any difference.

Will this dry eventually or should I try and get as much excess off as possible? If so how?

    Please help

    Garry

Gather you have worked it out by now... If it was first coat it will have dried... I would never advise rolling oil onto a deck as it not only puts too much on it quite of puts pigment spots on it from the roller... far better to get a lamswool applicator for future coats... Turps and a rag will take the excess oil off but its hard work and you would then prob have to apply another coat to even it out.. i have had to turps a F & W oiled deck after a heavy dew caused pigment changes to the finish over night

If its totally stuffed PM and i will tell you how to totally remove the F & W coating without sanding

    good luck with it

    Thanks

Yes it did dry eventually but took about 3 days...lucky thers no rain. It certainly doesn't need a second coat and has come up good. I'll use a brush or applicator as you suggest next time.
