My new 'old' shed

Hi All

Been a long time coming but I have recyled the ugly 60's tin shed into something much more fitting for the house. A lot of the materials were either from the demolished shed or from the salvage yard, so it cost a similar amount to a new tin shed of that sort of size.

The little barn doors in the gable allow me to slide all my long timbers into the roof space, which has been a useful feature.

Now I just need to landscape the rest of the garden!!

I don't have any good pics of the inside ... but it certainly isn't as nice as the outside. The roof frame is all old hardwood and the floor is just the original slab ... I tend to like to open up the doors and work outside anyway!

Now that is a neat feature!

You said the floor is just the old slab but it from your photos the new shed looks to have a different foot print to the old slab. Did you lay more concrete?

Yeah ... as per normal the project ended up being a little larger than expeted! I wanted to build on the existing slab ... but after demolishing the other shed I found that it is only really crushed rock covered in about 30mm of concrete. It's OK for a rough floor but no good structurally, so I cut two strips out of teh existing slab and made a 300w x 600d strip footing down each side of the new shed. That might have been a bit of overkill ... but you never know, maybe I'll want a three storey barn in the future???

Your shed looks great - beats my ugly painted brick garage - and you made it yourself!

Out of curiosity, what happens to the water in the gutter when it rains - looks like there's no downpipe from the pic?

Not a problem ... doesn't seem to rain much rain.

Actually ... the pic is a touch behind, there is a water tank at the back, they go via there and then into the storm water.

Nice job on the shed. It is a lot nicer to head out to the shed when it looks better, isn't it?
Once you finish the rest of mini forrest landsacping it will be like a little woodworking cabin in the woods.

Yep ... it now has the old look of the house. The new extension I build (that I was also careful to keep in the original style) looks right out onto the shed and so it had to look the part.

Its actually been great to have a nice sized work bench and some decent (waterproof) storage area again.
