repairing solid plaster on brick walls?
Hi all,
my parents are modifying a 1940's solid brick home. Yesterday they removed some shelving either side of a fireplace in their lounge room. This has taken off some of the 5mm solid plaster where the shelves were attached to the walls. What's the best filler to use ie. one that will stick to the brick/render under the plaster?
Cheers!

I use cornice cement. It helps to dampen the mortar with water or bondcrete to help with adhesion before filling. I usually scrape back when not quite dry to lessen any sanding which may interfere with the surrounding area. Cheers.

Thanks for that redheeler,
my concern was a base coat that would stick to the exposed masonary under the plaster.
Your suggestion makes perfect sense.

Thanks Rod,
I did a search, but I find that the search on this site tends to throw up heaps of irrelevant info, so I started sifting through the 30 odd pages on this sub forum, got to page 15 & thought it would be quicker to post a question.
Cornice cement then topcoat it is then.
BTW I have used your website - fantastic resource, but couldn't find any info about this particular problem.
Cheers.
