    Default New floor

    Hi all,
I have just had 100sq m of new blackbutt t&g flooring laid and finished.
And it squeaks when you walk around on it.
Most joists are original from old floor with some new ones in places.
Floor was laid last year and has had plenty of traffic (3 months) till it was sanded and finished with TREKplus commercial floor finish.
I did notice some squeaks/creaking before it was sanded.

    Is this normal?
if not how can it be fixed?

i am disappointed and I know what the builder will say when I ask him to fix it!

if you can check if their is blocking between the floor joists? joists should have solid blocking at the ends & every 1800 at least

The joists should be at 450mm centres. It it is an old place, they may be further apart. If so, and you can get under the floor, Glue a 70x35 pine to the floor between the joists and then screw up into the floor boards.

remember to use screws that DO NOT come through the top of the floor or your missus will de-nut you.
    Hooroo.

You can also run seal and flex along the underside of the floor beside the joist. If you can get it inbetween the floor and the joist even beter. And do what Trevor said its good advice

    Cheers
