Base boards to concrete stumps
We had our house restumped a couple years ago. How would we go about attaching new base boards? I believe it is not structurally sound to dyna bolt or gun nail to the concrete stumps, by referring to engineering specifications.
MY own thoughts at this stage are strips of treated pine 50x75mm metal strapped to the stumps, with wooden wedges to tighten to maximum capacity. I don't believe 'No nails' will be strong enough.
Any thoughts or previous experiences appreciated!

Stick your treated pine strips on one day with liquid nails.
Next day whack some gal hoop iron right around the stump and nail it tightly to the treated pine.

Is it not OK to dynabolt the cleats directly to the stumps?
My neighbour is wanting to do the same thing..
Cheers

I would think that due to the structural nature of concrete stumps and the compressive force they are used for, you would not be allowed to drill, nail, dynabolt them in any way. I would not alter the stumps in any way that would create a hole on my house, this is why I was seeing if there waere alternatives. The hoop iron idea sounds brilliant, and I can see that when the base boards are screwed up, how they will retain their tension very well.

I need to do the same thing ie. fix base boards to concrete stumps, so this thread has helped me greatly as well.
Incidentally, what do you guys use for the base boards themselves. Just treated pine strips you get from a timber place, or do they sell timber specially made for base boards?

I normally use 150 x 25 treated pine but I have used 70mm decking at times

Thanks for that.
Hmmm... decking, didn't think of that. Might consider a mix depending on what kind of look I want for each area/facing. Cheers.
