Default Wattyl Oil-Based Primer or Fungishield?

    Hello,

I am looking to paint some new pine timber and have the following question about priing the timber before painting it:

On F&W website the blurb for Fungicide says :

" A clear, water repellent, penetrating wood preserver for priming new interior and exterior timber. Feast Watson Fungishield inhibits the growth of mould, fungus and decay and is designed to stabilise timber to minimise twisting and warping prior to top coating. It may be stained, varnished or painted after 8 hours."

    1) Does the Wattyl Oil Based Primer have the same properties as the above for wood preserving and inhibiting mould/funugs growth?

    2) Do these 2 products do exactly the same thing?

    3) When priming new pine timber should I go for the F&W only or use this first then the Oil based Primer to get maximum logevity out of my timber?

    Thanks,
    Nic.

is it treated pine, if not it won't last no matter which paint you use.

I normally apply 2 coats of Wattyl Solargaurd to exterior timbers, its self priming and lasts extremely well.

is the timber for interior or exterior.?

exterior always use a primer ...oil-based paints, oil based primer, acrylic primer under acrylic gloss or low sheen..even when the label says NO PRIMER REQUIRED ..that way the paint will last, preparation is the best result.
