Bunnies Drum Sanders, Anyone know what size belts?

Hi All,

I tried looking at the drum belts on the shelf and also called bunnings (waste of time that was) trying to work out what size belts there drum sanders take, off the shelf the tag said 203mm*480mm can that be right? looking on the net belts are usually refered to as 8" or 12" ??

Trying to find some cheaper so i don't have to pay their exorbitant prices...!!

Bugga, it doesn't appear as tho there is anywhere to get them from except for bunnies... $8 bucks a throw! and god knows how many i will need... 15x 40, 10x80 and maybe 25x120? - considering the 120 needs to be done multiple times (between coates of finnish etc) $400 on sand paper, bugga was going good with my expenditure...

I'm not a pro and have only done one floor, but I wouldn't be using the drum sander between coats. You are looking for a light sand to give it a bit of tooth. A drum sander will go straight through 1 coat easy, even with a fine grit. Half a house at a time took me about half an hour with a 1/3 sheet painter's "block" with a handle. From memory you will need most of the low grades, and only a few of the finer ones. Get heaps though - you take back what you didn't use and get a refund.

First up, I think you might be over estimating the amount of sandpaper required for your job. If you pick up as many sheets as you've outlined I'm sure you will be taking a lot back.

Secondly, you could get your man with a Bona....er...sorry, your man from Bona to send you out say, four or five metres of 200mm (8 inch) wide paper in your preferred grits and just use one sheet from Bunnings as a template for cutting them as required. This might work out a bit cheaper.

Cheers Peter, I was thinking i might use my half sheet orbital for the inbetween coats will save a days rental as well, but then i was thinking time wise the drum would be quicker...

Hey Dusty, the paper for these particular machines is in kind of a small belt, i think it slips over the drum - no one knowledgable was at bunnies this morning to really tell me exactly how it works... but the ends are definitely joined together... It happens that there is a synteko outlet right accross from the bunnies so i went and saw them this morning as well, the guy said they don't do the "slips" and that he didn't know of anyone that did...

Ohh, it's a belt type sander, instead of a drum. Then I guess your stuck with using their stuff.
