    Default Spacing between joists

Hi all - am build a ground level deck and want to have a walkway around the house.

Given that I want a walk way of a metre - I really don't want to have to put in an extra joist.

Just wondering whether you though i could get away having my joists 500mm apart instead of 450mm?

What about having 3 x 450mm spaced joists and 50mm overhangs past the 2 outside joists?
    Cheers.

    That'll work.
All decks should be stained....black white black white black white.......after all it would match anything!
All roofs should be covered or tiled.....black colorbond, silver mist, black colorbond, silver mist, black colorbond.........after all, we wouldn't want a mismatch!

the larger the spacing the greater spring you ll get when ya walking on it, 450mm is best - 600mm starts getting a bit of bounce

The spacing of your joists will also be determined by the decking type.
i.e standard grade 19mm treated pine can't span more than 400.

Why dont you run your joists perpendicular to your house (IMO the correct way) so you are talking about 1M lengths - it doesn't really matter then and there is less cutting of the decking boards and your inside bearer can be attached to the house so less posts?
