Our American oak kitchen is 15 years old and is showing signs of wear. Doors are solid timber, and the panels are veneer. Steam and wear has deteriorated the lacquer finish, ad my wife is getting people in to quote on returning it to pristine condition. However, I am unsure what to believe from these guys.
Some are recommending complete removal of the yellowed lacquer and re-applying it for literally thousands of dollars.

Any advice out there for a hand preparation of the doors to prepare the aged lacquer for a re-application to restore the look without changing the colour from what the paneling is?
