Gate too heavy ?
Hi all,
Bought a second-hand gate the other day and want to place it onto a wooden fence post.
My problem (I think) is that it could be too heavy for a standalone wooden post ?
It's about 35kgs and 140cm in width and 130cm in height. Should i put a wheel on the bottom of it to help the post's support ?
Should i get a huge post and dig it into the ground real deep with plenty of concrete ?
It's quiet heavy.
Perhaps I'm paranoid...
Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom, I would go for a stronger post, rather than a wheel. At 140 Cm it is not such a big gate and a wheel may look out of place.
Is there a post already there? If so then maybe a brace could help.
Hope this helps Cheers Steven. The hurrier I go, the behinder I get.

3rd February 2008, 01:27 PM #5you need a 150 x 150 post
I used 100 x 50 gal RHS boled to the back of the posts to strengthen it all up, and sunk the hole lot in concrete 300 x 300 x 600 deep. The client has 4 young boys, so I was concerned that they would be swinging off them as soon as I left the job.
Use proper concrete. Quickset is rubbish IMO
