    Default One for Zed

There is a rope hanging over a pulley with a weight on one end and a monkey of equal weight on the other end.

The rope weighed 4 ounces per foot.

The age of the monkey and the age of its mother were together equal to 4 years

The weight of the monkey was as many pounds as its mother was years old.

The mother was twice as old as the monkey was when the mother was half as old as the monkey will be when the monkey is three times as old as the mother was when the mother was three times as old as the monkey.

The weight of the weight and the weight of the rope was half a much again as the difference between the weight of the weight and the weight of the weight and the weight of the monkey.

What is the length of the rope?

Three eighths of four links plus one twelfth of the difference between a chain and a furlong.

Default Zed: This is your life

When the mother is 3 times the age of the monkey, let their respective ages be 3x and x.

Thus the difference in their ages is 2x, which is constant.

When the monkey is three times as old as the mother was, he will be 9x.

When the mother is half this age, she is 41/2x and the monkey is therefore 21/2x

Twics this (i.e. 5x) is the mothers age at the time of the problem and the monkey's age is therefore 3x.

    Now 5x+3x = 4.
    Therefore x+1/2 AND X = 21/2

Therfore wight of te monkey = weight of weight = 21/2 Lb = 40oz.

    40+ weight of rope = 1 1/2(40+40-40)
    Weight of rope is 60-40 = 20oz.

Therefore length of rope is 5 feet.

Now for those youngsters who only use decimals:

    1Kg = 2.2 lb.
    1 inch = 2.54 cm.
    12 inches = 1 foot.

A monkey is a monkey in either nomenclature

    Regards
    Greg
