Pergola fascia connection
As a newbie to this forum, i would like to post a few questions on my current pergola situation. Have currently a pergola in progress with the posts and side beams attached. However since my fascia is colourbond, i decided to strengthen the rafters and use brackets to stiffen them also. My problem i have encountered is because my pergola is going to be in a L-shaped version, i came unstuck when i got to the corner of the l-shape when stregthening the rafters.
Firstly some details on the pergola
- Total of 5 posts at 2.4 high 90*90
- 12 metres of side beams of 190*45 width connected at either side to brick walls.
- Going to be pitch roof at 22.5 degrees (maybe 45degrees to make it look bigger)
-Rafters to be 140*45
- Width of pergola is 2.75m at long end and about 2.5m at short end of l-shape.
- I want to run the pitch roof all the way around the corner.
I would like some assistance to these questions if possible:
1. House pitch is 22.5degrees. Because my backyard is small i want to maximise and make it feel as abig as possible. But is 45degree pitch too much and will it kill the look. (hard to answer without seeing but advice will be ok)
2. As i was strengthening the rafters on the longer section of the l-shape pergola, i got closer to the corner and realised that i cant get underneath the tiles since the roof capping (mind my terminology if incorrect) is there and fixed. Im not a roof tiler so dont want to take or break it off. Must get some support in there otherwise pergola will only go to where i have placed the supports. Also I cant just run the ledger beam across the fascia to that point because there is a gutter right there stopping me. So i have to cut and make a seperate second ledger beam with suports. How do i do this since this area is critical for the curve of my pergola.
3. Rafter trusses were going to be 140*45 but i see alot of people using 90*45. Is 140*45 an overkill.
A bit informative sorry but any info greatly appreciated.
