old vinyl glued directly on to floor boards!
Hi, I have bought a mid 70's house where someone thought it would be a good idea to glue the (very ugly) vinyl flooring directly onto the (beautiful) hardwood floor boards.
Have ripped the vinyl up, but am left with a sticky mess of glue. Have tried turps to get it off with only very limited success - does anyone have any advice?

you should be able to scrape most of it off with a wide woodchisel

Thanks echnidna, have scraped off as much as possible but it's still very sticky! (don't want to stand too long in one place - could have to stay there forever!)
I'm worried that because it's so sticky, we won't be able to sand it!

If you're sanding it with a proper drum type floor sander it'll come off ok.

One of the floor guys talked about this not all that long ago, it can be remove by sanding. Try doing a search off the flooring forum.
