Woodies BBQ Gold Coast QLD
I think it is about time to have another BBQ in SEQ and it's the Gold Coast's turn I think. So I'll put up my hand.
Sunday 24th February 2008 say 10:30am onwards
BYO drinks, I'll provide the meat/bread/salads, open to offers for deserts.
Open to offers for demos, I could do some turning perhaps. If I have my slabbing rig up and running I could also do that, or if not, perhaps TJ can bring down his if he is free.
I assume Rocker will have another chair joint he wants tested
All welcome, including wives & kids. There is a pool and other goodies to entertain. Just rember this is a single blokes house, so don't expect much, I'm a slob .
Note to self - give shed and house a clean

Neil, put me down as a tentative yes. As long as there are no school commitments that interfere I'll be there!
Have a nice day - Cheers

Great idea Neil.
I will see you tomorrow and hope I can convince my wife and daughters as to the benefits of these outings and see if they can lend their culinary expertise to balance my lack of wood working talent.
I had a great time at Tee Jays and appreciated the behind the scenes work of the ladies. I hope our Gold Coast girls will at least meet the bench mark that was set at Petrie otherwise you will all have to survive on " The mean burnt sausage that I can cook on a bar b que. "

Neil, please put me down as attending. Can you PM me your address?
I don't really have anything to demo, although I suppose I could bring the Veritas Mk II sharpening jig if people wanted to see how it worked ? Or maybe a scraper demo?"If something is really worth doing, it is worth doing badly." - GK Chesterton

Love to have you Sturdee, but Saturday means I'm in a big rush to get things ready and buy the produce. A lot of SEQers work Saturday also.
Any chance of calling in before or after your family thingy. You are more than welcome to call in on Saturday anyway, just the others wont be here.Neil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new

I think I could make it.

Pencil me (and SWMBO) in for starters. I can bring more blunt tools for show and tell and probably manage a cake or a dessert.
I've been looking at the flotsam on the beaches the last couple of days. There's some pretty large unidentified trunks out there, I've wondered about picking up one or two for experimenting on but decided I'd get a hernia before I'd manage to move one. How do you go about moving trunks for a slabbing demo? Is the idea of recovering driftwood for slabbing realistic?

I wouldn't bother with the driftwood, but that's me.
Big slabs come from big trees, and unless you have penty of room with big trucks and cranes for moving etc, most slabbing is done at the site where the tree falls.
I have a number of small logs here (300 to 500mm dia x 600 to 1800mm long) and a few burls for slabbing demos.Neil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new
