Default Cats/Dogs in Gardens etc etc

Have just read all the posts & replies regarding the above, and if nothing else it provided some light entertainment. Hard to know what is serious and what is not.

It did bring to mind a situation that arose many years ago around the Charleville area. Wild dogs & dingoes were a considerable problem and graziers were suffering large losses as a result.

A lot of shooting was done, as was trapping, and the use of ten 80. The problem had reached a stage where a civic meeting was called to see what measures could be taken to control the problem.

Quite a number of people turned up and many varied and unique proposals were put forward [not unlike ones in this forum]

A woman, via the chair, was given time to speak. She spoke passionately about the insensitivity of all methods prescribed ie shooting, baiting, trapping and the amount of suffering that would be perpetrated upon the hapless animal.

Her solution was to trap the dogs/dingoes in non lethal or injurious traps. the dogs to then be anethetized, castrated and then released - apparently thinking that only male dogs killed sheep!

Her presentation was eloquent and as mentioned - passionate

A crustly old grazier rose to his feet, and his address went somthing like this. "Mister Chairman, through the chair, I would like to advise the previous speaker, it's not the dogs f...... the sheep that is the problem, it's eating them - maybe we should just pull their teeth out"

The meeting erupted - the Chairman could no longer control the crowd - and so all repaired to the pub - excluding the lady speaker
