Default New house - floating timber

    Hello all,

I'm new to this forum and need some advise. We have recently built our new home in Melbourne and need a good company that will provide good veneered timber and installation. Price must be decent.

I have calculated, my floor is around 105 per sq metre. I'm actually after a spotted gum floating floor.

Can someone please advise where I should get what Im after or maybe PM me for more information?

Also, I want someone who can do the job properly. I may need someone who can do decking and timber gates too.

    Many thanks in advance!

i can't suggest any tradies as i dont live in the area - however i can give you some things to consider so that the end result is without dissapointment.

    - if your floor is concrete, you must wait for the conc to finish the early stages of curing; the floor can't be installed until at least 28 days after the concrete has been laid.

    - the timber you wind up using must be stacked (stored) in the room it will be fixed for at least a week (i have heard some suggest 4 weeks) to allow it and the top of the slab's moisture contents to 'equalise'; this process must be undertaken after the 28day curing time of the slab or the timber will give up moisture rapidly to the concrete's curing process which may cause undesirable results

    - the above holds true even if you are using kiln-dried or air-dried timber

here is some reading that will help you in decision making...

    and something a little heavier...
