attaching new bearers?
i am about to add bearers to my stumps for our new extension.
Is it better to have new stumps right up against the old stumps of the house for the new bearers to sit on or is it fine to just attach them to the old part of the house?
What is the best way?

You can probably safely attach the new bearers to existing stumps. It's worth checking they are sound and adequate, though. If they're timber stumps make sure your attachment method allows restumping without demolition...
New stumps shouldn't be dug too close to the existing ones, as you may otherwise upset the originals' bedding.
