I have an octagonal Edwardian tea table I bought in a junk shop, that has an amazing finish.
Its Shellac, but has a Furn like patteren worked into in the shellac, in various shades, the effect is pretty spectacular, it flashes in the light like sun on wet leaves .
I guess this had been done in a similar manner to graining except a "Stamp"
has been made up with a cloth and rolled over the surface to imprint the furn.

Unfortunatly the center has been destroyed so I'm going to have to mask out an octagonal patch in the centre and shellac that in flat black to match the sides.

I was wondering if anyone knows what this type of finish is called and the technique.
Will post a pic when my girl gets up to take some.
