Sash windows - paint stiles or not?
Hiya's,
Doing some refurb of the sash windows. I notice outsides of some of the running stiles are painted, others not. I would have thought these were not painted - but then again, maybe protects the wood more? Or, maybe not since would just stick. I know silicons can help, but, are they painted? Now I'm a little confused as to what's the 'done' thing.I read the instructions! It's still upside down...

Are you using acrylic or enamel? The former is best left off running surfaces, while a good quality enamel (once dried) will slide nicely. You might have some joy with Penetrol and an ontherwise acrylic régime. Generally, I reckon acrylic paint refurbs on sliding timber sash windows are a disappointment - this comes from bitter and costly experience.
Regards, Adam.
