Hello,
I am planning to build a couple cabinet myself. Does any shops in Melbourne offer piano finished MDF?

Yes it can be done, but for everyday cabinets its going to be an expensive exersize. You cant buy it already done.
You'd be better off sending the cabinets to a autobody finisher for some coats of 2pac black(same as they use on 2pac kitchens)then buff it for a mirror shine.....................................................................

I have just finished building a computer desk for the missus and have sprayed the top in water based white. After polishing it up it looks like glass. I assume this is the finish you are after. I first used a white MDF primer (Johnsons) applied with a foam roller and then sanded this down with 400 dry paper. I then applied two full coats of white water based gloss (Wickes a local DIY chain) with a HVLP gun After leaving it to harden for two days wet flatted it with 800 wet dry and then polish with machine and a good rubbing compound and lambswool bonnet. Would post some pics but Missus is away with the camera for the weekend and project just finished to surprise her.

Sorry wouldnt have the foggiest idea how much, try ringing a few cabinet makers who do kitchens.
MDF is a good substrate for painting as its very flat and smooth... but the cut edges can be a pain as they are super absorbent and will need sealing before any top coats are applied.
Can you spray paint?....................................................................

I can spray paint in my garage but I am not good at it. I am not comfortable with sanding as high gloss finish is so unforgivetible to inperfect surface.
Is white high gloss iron on laminate available on the market?
