How about sucking it out with your dust collector.

I used to have the bottom disc off an old mower welded to a pipe T handle.
Cut a slot one side and bend that part of the disc down. Just drop it in the hole turn it a bit to pick up some dirt and lift it out.

I'd have a look around your local Bunnies or equivalent for these... (About the fourth item down, look like long handled tongs. )
They used to be available at any half-way decent HW suppliers, but they seem to be quite a bit scarcer now that mechanical augers are so popular. Perhaps Alltools will rent you a set?

1mtr deep, your lucky.Mine are 1.5 it's doin me head in.Iv'e made enquire's from mate's in the building trade(I'm a carpenter) other than smart arsed answer's Iv'e found no help.To my knowledge there is no tool for our need. However I woke up in the middle of the night with a possible answer, which I am going to try tomorrow.I'm going to use an empty pastering bucket, these are quite strong.Fix a timber spreader in the top(19 x 75 edge up) ,screw through side's of bucket into spreader.Notch a length of 35 x 90 over the spreader and make it into a T bar.Cut a hole in side of the bucket, close to the base, leave the bottom intact. When it's turned it might pick up the dirt.I bloody hope so

Hi There, I was luck that mine were only about 800mm but I used a pincer shovel (called scissor shovel etc. above) and a 90deg pvc bend worked well for me as finishing off scoop. You're right though, it isn't much fun lying on your stomach trying to clean them out!
One word of warning, watch for the rain. If that happens they will fill up with mud again ... and that's even harder to get out that freshly augered soil. I got caught by this even though I had tartped the whole lot it wasn't enough to keep out teh downpour that just happened to occur that week.
