Aquaenamel - Zinsser - The perfect finish

Hi,
I need to produce a really smooth finish on the following job and would like some help on a few point.

Job:
New, raw, Western Red Cedar (Trend Windows and doors)
Brush Spirit

1st coat Zinsser (Cover Stain) may second coat
2nd Dulux Aquaenamel (Semi Gloss - Whisper White)
3rd Same as 2nd.

Have started primer(Zonsser) but am having trouble applying paint. It dries to fast and is leaving deep brush strokes. Added a small amount of Turps but still no good.
I have penetrol, can I use this and if yes what mix ratio?

How can I get a good finish with the Aquaenamel?

What sanding and paper grades would you recommend?

Eric, not much advice for you, other than to say that we made the mistake of using a water based undercoat under the enamel on our kitchen cupboards, & the brush marks from the undercoat showed through. Would have used an oil based undercoat with 20/20 hindsight.

Would ring the Zinsser supplier/distributor or send an email for best answer re the penetrol.

you are using BIN shellac primer from Zinsser, yes? It should be diluted with metho, not turps I think. But if you give it a sand between coats and put on a few coats it should smooth out. You could also try the water-based Zinsser - bullseye. However, you might be hard-pressed to get a smooth finish with aquanamel too. It also dries fast and you cannot spend much time rebrushing since that will also leave brush marks.

The Zinsser is excellent primer but is a high build and doesn't penetrate as much as others.
Mick I though it was white spirits that was the solvent.

If you did thin it down it would help.

Use Floetrol with the acrylic and don't paint on too hot or humid days,
