Question painting prep for concrete block house

    Hello everyone.
I'd love some advice on how much and what preparation I need to do prior to undercoat/sealing the exterior of my house which is built from concrete blocks. The house has been standing unsealed/unpainted 12 years and would certianly look much nicer painted and probably last better..

After twelve years you'll probably need to clean the walls with sani-chlor and a pressure cleaner. Then make up a cement/silasec slurry as per instructions and paint on with broom, this will waterproof the blockwork and fill the texture a lot. You can then follow with a blockfiller paint and then the rest of your paint system.

Default sealing a besser block wall

I also have a long standing issue with a weather facing besser block wall that absorbs the rain and is wet inside for most of the year. We tried having a contractor seal the wall from the outside with a silicon sealer I think it was but it has shown no noticeable improvement. Wall is 6 m high by 55m long. We have lived with it for donkeys years as is industrial warehouse. Any suggestions of what will do the job.

As stated on another thread I have been using Duralex Paints lately and have just painted the exterior of my planked house with their Sun Master. They also have a block and render filler which you would use first. Check their website
