150x150 Cypress Pine Posts???
Hey all,
Building a gazebo, and I was looking for chunky posts coz i like the look of them and was advised to go for 150x150 cypress pine. Problem is, I have called a bunch of places and no one seems to stock it, or they need to order it in.
Would anyone know where I can get this stuff from>?
Cheers.

gday mate
this is a rather large section for off-the-shelf. maybe you could make it up from two members bolted together. in any case can i suggest you read this article from outdoor structures australia, as they have a discussion regarding large posts used externally and how the different parts of the tree-trunk will behave...
http://www.outdoorstructures.com.au/pdf/etdn_3.pdf
on that website there is a bunch of other stuff about using timber externally, unseasoned and seasoned both; an excellent all-round resource.

Dont know anywhere you could buy it off the shelf, maybe try a mill somewhere. I have asked a couple of people before and they ordered it. Cypress does has sapwood around the outside but if you pick your timber you can check that. Why not use 125mm post they are a lot lighter.

These guys are in Research and are brilliant!

Have bought Cypress, Redgum, Jarrah from them. Absolutely beautiful timber. Will mill for you but have 150x150 cypress in stock. Cannot speak highly enough of them. Give Mark a call (phone number in ebay listings).
Can also arrange delivery I think

I bought 100sq Cypress posts from these guys, some years ago. Don't know if they they still do it, but they might be worth a ring.

If you're still looking or ever need bulk cyprus - I bought a house lot from a fantastic little mill called Injune Cyprus. Although they are near Roma in Queensland, they will deliver to Victoria and they go up to 150mm by 300mm. Prices are very reasonable and they were great to deal with.

Try your local fencing supplier as they use large posts.
