    Default Hayfever on the increase

Don't know about anybody else but the last couple of weeks has seen a big increase in my hayfever particularly when working in the garage with wood. For a couple of months in late Spring and early Summer I find it difficult to work with wood particularly when there's a bit of dust around. Have tried Claratyne tablets but ineffective, anyone else suffering?

Certainly am! But then mine is partly self-inflicted as I have spent quite a few hours on the tractor doing the slashing these last few days.
So after the tractor, it is almost a relief to get back in the shed!

I find that Claratyne works well for me, although it doesn't completely eliminate the symptoms, but it doesn't do anything for SWMBO. She uses Telfast, which doesn't do anything for me!

So these anti-hystamines seem to be fairly specific for certain people.

Mine's really bad at the moment, but I sympathise with your situation Big Shed, you and the wife have the dreaded hayfever. Have you got kids and if so do they also have it as my 5 year old is just beginning to show signs of it?

I find that something might work for a couple of seasons then I have to change to something else.

Had a yarn with the chemist and he said your body builds up a resistance to one then it needs something else to do the work.

    Telfast this year.

Yes, we have 3 children, 1 has hay fever as bad as we do, 1 suffers from asthma, the other is clear of those 2ailments. SWMBO used to get asthma quite badly, but for the last few years has been taking Pulmicord and that has controlled it quite well.

    Default Hayfever

Ha! You lot only think you know hayfever!

I find I cannot function without garlic and horse radish capsules + Claramax or one of the other non drowsy antihistamines + Nasonex (an expensive prescription item).

In my case, it is definitely related to the area in which I live (S.E Qld). I started off in SEQ where I had problems and have since lived in NQ, FNQ, and NWQ without problems but since moving back to to SEQ the problem has re-surfaced.

Heard an interesting thing on the radio yesterday
not specificly refering to hay fever, but the allergy epidemic in general.

This paediatric doc was proposing that, as the invention of anti biotics saved many with weak immune systems from death in childhood, the survivors who would normally have died in infancy, have passed this genetic weakness to their children and grand children.
she pointed to the number of graves in cemetries of children who died for no other reason than being "sickly"

maybe the expaination is that simple
