Using GLT for structural work.
G'Day Guys,
can anybody forsee any problems with using Glued Laminated Timber for the structural work in a deck. I gather by that he means posts, bearers etc. This is the builders recommendation. Is GLT OK to use for this application?
Thanks for any help on this one..

Depends on the timber. I have seen exposed glulam beams distort and begin to de-laminate in the past.

Moisture might be a concern. How exposed would it be? Is the GLT rated for outdoor exposure?

Have a look at this: http://www.chhfuturebuild.com/upload...sed_June07.pdf
You can use Hyspan in weather exposed situations with a few extra precautions. It needs to be treated to H3 as well."I don't practice what I preach because I'm not the kind of person I'm preaching to."

HySpan is definately better if you protect it properly.
