...I suspect that old Cliffy may be a bit peeved with me for ignoring him once. ......[/
Bugger, I went to a woodwork meeting & missed a good bun fight.
I have 2 things to say to you corkhead, neither of them are very original but I think they are funny so I'll repeat them here.
1. Never wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty and the pig enjoys it.
2. Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time and annoys the pig.
3. (I found another one. ) With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine.
4. (I lied.) If you want to grizzle about the other forum or people who post there, do it there, not here, this is NOT the place.Cliff.
If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.

Sorry, but that irks me more than anything. Closing a thread should be an absolute last resort. I don't think it should be done where a thread involves some degree of controversy.
And John, do you remember how it ended with that particular member who spat the dummy? My perception of it was that some where taking the micky, like they did with the pen turners. And for what its worth, I'll bet my last dollar that the majority of forumites would agree that pen turning is about as interesting as .........well, I'll let you finish the metaphor.
There is crap I don't like here and there. What I do like about both places is the majority of the people that frequent them, albeit unlike myself, they have many character flaws.
In my (as has been suggested by some) not so humble opinion (IMNSHO) the moderation has changed somewhat since I first joined up. So have some of the regular posters (not to mention the jokes forum). That is something we all have to get a handle on I would have thought. Nothing stays the same in my experience.
I remember the hijacked threads. That doesn't seem to happen anymore. In some cases, it is all for the better, but in others (especially where there is some wit involved) I don't think it is.
I know from my personal experience that I have hijacked a thread by responding to a poster by referring, in part, to what he said in another thread. IMNSHO, it was witty and I got a greeny for it too. For those who can remember, it was about cowboys. Well, that post was deleted. It wasn't offensive or objectionable on any grounds other than being "off topic" to the degree that it did not respond to the original question. Now I didn't agree with that.
That is why some people refer to this forum as being sterile. Some might say it is too serious.
Now I will defend the moderators (not that they need it) as it is one of those tasks that draws attention to an individual for mostly the wrong reasons. It can't be easy and I again thank them for their efforts.
So in conclusion, I would say that the filter has become somewhat too fine. That in turn has killed off some of the humour along with the undesirable crap.
Now I was thinking about buying a tablesaw. What do you reckon I can get for $100?

I have no idea. I didn’t follow the thread after reading a page of the replies to my last post, and I haven’t bothered going back there. Well I don’t expect that any of them would want to emigrate then. Personally I reckon that the pens that they turn out look gorgeous, and anyone who receives them as a gift should think themselves a very lucky person, but I don’t want to start an argument with you over this.
Yes I’ve had that happen to me as well. A member posted a picture and asked for a caption. I photochopped, and the member sent me a thumsup saying that it was funny in a PM. But it was deleted. I couldn’t see anything offensive in it.
There was another case where someone posted a thread about the shonky Nimrods that cost the lives of many British soldiers. Someone was trolling and said “Who gives a rats”. I posted something to the effect of ; “These soldiers have given their lives for their country and they deserve the utmost admiration and respect. Weather you agree or disagree with the policies of their govt. they are doing a dangerous job on behalf of all of us, and they deserve the best equipment and maintenance standards, and it’s scandalous that they’re not getting it.
If you have nothing constructive to add, then I’d suggest that you shut up and take your trolling attitude elsewhere.”
Both posts were deleted, but I think they should have stayed.
But then again, if I had my way then nothing would be deleted except for spam, and the place may well degenerate into a cesspit that no decent person would want to visit.
I respect the fact that this is not my forum and it’s not up to me to make the rules. I believe that there’s plenty of scope for humour here, and that this is the best forum that I’ve found to suit my tastes. The core subject of the forums is woodwork and related topics, and IMO you couldn’t find a better place if you’re interested in the subject, and you’re looking to gain knowledge, or to form friendships with like minded people.
You don't have to teach me. I can sing quite well.

Jeez.... Ya go away for a few hours and what ya come back to.
Personally, I don't think this thread is deserving of either forum or the space it's taking up.
Pawnhead and others if you read my earlier post you will have seen that most moderation is done either by the poster or because we have received complaints from other members. There are people from all races, religions, and genders using these forums now and what you or I may think is fine, another group may be highly offended by. If a post is reported then in most instances it is acted on, this could be as simple as changing a word or could involve deleting the post and in the worst case giving an infraction.
From day one I have been strongly against almost any form of moderation or censorship. Personally I still am, however for a forum this size to survive and grow it must have some sense of decorum and in our case it's pretty much driven by the members themselves.

Back to the thread "Where did the humour go"
Like it or not people, there is no them and us, because they are us and some of us are them.
Some seem to have missed the point completely. TheBlokeyShid has basically been responsible for the (perceived by some) recent lack of humor here. Funny thing though, I had a look in there a couple of days ago, after being sent a link and didn't see anything even remotely funny or worthy of being called humor. Just a whole heap of the same rubbish that we used to get here, only with a helping of foul language thrown in just for fun. Now I'm not a prude, far from it, I'll mix it with the best that anyone here or there can dish out, I also have a really good sense of humor, but try as I might I couldn't find the humor and was pretty disgusted with what I read.
No sour grapes, no feeling of being threatened or suffering from inferiority problems. Just a big thank you to TheBlokeyShid for giving our members a place let off steam and swear and carry on as blokes are sometimes want to do.
TheShid has also been responsible for people coming back to these forums because the hijacking has all but gone, the hazing and often unwelcoming replies to newies has all but gone, the boys club gang banging has all but gone and hopefully it won't make a return.

Below are just 4 of the many responses I've received over the last couple of days from members who don't want to get into a bun fight or inflame the thread. I'm not fussed either way, anyone who wants a bun fight bring it on. I've been told I've got great buns.- The only people complaing are the ones that have gone to BS. Personally I don't give a f*ck what they think!!
- so now they have to learn a more refined version of humour, one that is genuinely funny, not over the top hurtful or personally directed.
- Yes the forums have changed "they evolved". For the better I think
- There's humour and there's humour , then there's drivel and hijacking people's thread which started with a question they wouldn't have asked if they didn't what to know/learn.
Preferably in chunk of wood and not someones head.

No problems, & contrary to what you might think, Ding is still a mate.
I post there & I post here, not everything here is funny to me & not everything there is funny to me.
You can please some of the people some of the time but you can't please all of the people all of the time.
Don't get caught trying to please yourself.Cliff.
