Door Hardware
Hi Everyone,
Does anyone know where I can get cheap interior doors and doorknos in Melbourne? Bunnings have cheap doors, but the doorknobs are quite expensive. Any ideas? Thanks. Mandyther

Bunnings for doors if it is just the standard types you want.

I do a bit of hardware shopping at Big W. They don't have a huge range, but if you're after cheap and nasty (and sometimes not so nasty) stuff then they generally can't be beat. Especially for paint. I got these lockset handles for under $20 each pair. There's a thread showing the bi-fold installation here
Bargain shops are good too. I've found passage sets, and locksets for under $10 sometimes.

hit the recyclers, I got seven single panel polished 1930's timber doors plus original english mortice locks and hinges (good strong steel unlike hinges at Bunnies) for under a thousand dollars, but there are plenty of cheaper ones and sets in the racks.
most also have boxes and boxes of old locks, handles etc.
Outer suburbs recyclers are often cheaper than inner. Country places are usually hellishly expensive in my experience, seem to think anything made prior to 1985 is an antique.
good hunting
