Treating Pine
I want to build a screen 1.8 x 10 metres my problem is I cant afford to buy the H4 treated pine for the posts as they where going to cost $48 each..
I'm looking at using H3 which will only cost $12 each but painting the bottom which will be in the ground with "Eco inground timber protector" which protects against timber being put in the ground from water etc, I will also look at having blue metal at the base..
Is this a reasonable way of doing it, I will be happy if the screen last 7 - 10 years should I also have them sprayed for termites when i get my house done soon.... any ideas ?

Hi - I believe this would be a practical way to do it, but you might want to go a bit deeper into the ground if you're not planning on setting them in concrete ... .incidentally I believe this is how the Americans do such things due to freeze-thaw effect of their winters. Water drains through the aggregate and has the added benefit that no water- no rot.
Of course, you could redesign the screen so it requires fewer posts, but I imagine then you'd need heavier timber on the rest of it thereby negating the savings.Steve
