To protect-a-deck or not?
Whats up peoples.
I am assuming you all know Protect-a-deck. Which is the plastic that goes over the joists/bearers to stop watter getting in and rotting etc etc.
I am at the stage in whch I can do this now or not. I am unsure. The protect a deck stuff is way too expensive for my liking, hence why I will buying a roll or plastic sheet from clark ruber if so and doing it.
Is this all a bit of hype or does it have affect?

Yes you should do it. I used this PVC/vinyl stuff that comes in rolls - can't remember the name but it's 50mm wide with little wings either side. Wasn't that expensive and definately worth doing (although my deck frame is steel not timber).
When you think about how much the materials have cost and how much time you spend building a deck, it's not really that big a cost."I don't practice what I preach because I'm not the kind of person I'm preaching to."

gday oohsam
if you want to save a few dinar you can buy the thick damp proof course plastic 30m roll 900 wide, which costs about $15. then cut this into thirds & there is 90m for your joist, bearer & post protector.
dont put the apprentice on the cutting job or you might be dissapointed with the results

Ok, So I protected my deck. I'll post pics up later. I used the black roll of plastic that brick layers use. Its much wider than the joist/bearers but we stapled it to the top of the bearer/joist and then stapled the over hang on the sides.
Basically we just used a heap of staples and saved on the sheeting...It turned out real real cheap but the job got done never the less.
Now I feel good about water not getting into my sub frame too much.
