tiling over tiles
Is it possible to tile over the top of existing tiles? I know that it is probably not ideal but if I pull up the old tiles it will no doubt compromise the waterproofong membrane. My bathroom had a leak behind the membrane. This caused the timber to swell which in turn cracked some tiles. The leak has been repaired and no permanent structural damage was done.

If the existing tiles are still in good condition and stuck hard to the floor then no problem. I did a job in vanuatu where we had the same problem,, went straight over the tiles and they seemed to stick as well as if in concrete. As long as it doesnt affect your floor levels then do it. Ripping them up is a pain in the butt.

The bathroom is only 4 years old so the 'old tiles' are actually in great nic except for the cracks.

Hi
I'm a novice myself, but recently tried just that ie. laid new ceramic tiles over old ones (for the shower area). Bunnings recommended a Dunlop product, "Tile on Tile" which is meant exactly for this. I cleaned the old tiles, mixed & spread the "Tile on Tile" then laid the new tiles, and after that filled the pointing with mould-proof coloured grout to match the new tile colour.
Worked like a charm, and it's been a couple of months, no problems at all so far.
Hope this is of help.
