    Default Sunshine Coast woodwork galleries

I was disappointed to discover today that Randy Degraw has closed his gallery at Witta near Maleny. There are two other galleries at Maleny: one is selling up, and not prepared to take any more items for sale; the other, newly opened by David Linton, is mainly an outlet for the products of his own workshop, and likewise unwilling to take chairs for sale. The gallery in Montville seems to sell mainly tourist knick-knacks, and has no room for serious furniture.

I wonder if anyone knows of other galleries in the area prepared to sell one-off pieces made by local furniture makers.

It's a long shot, but there's a beaut fine arts gallery at Kenilworth which sells only high quality art, and the odd small craft piece.

It may be worth talking to them Lasting Impressions Gallery

    It's a shame Randy's place is closed.

There are a couple of others round the place as well, and it may be worth getting your stuff into an art gallery rather than sitting it beside other "wood stuff".

One of my jobs for early next year is to do a completer reccy, so if you end up with a list, I'd be happy to share it!

    Good luck!

    David,

You could try the Tree Frog Gallery on the Montville-Malaney Rd. They had a few pieces last time we were there.

    Peter and Mark,

Thanks; I will try the Kenilworth place. The Tree Frog is the gallery that is being sold.

    G'day Rocker,
There is a place in the group of shops beside the Ettamogga Pub that sells wooden items along with tourisry stuff. Might be worth a try.
Sorry, can't help you with its name.

    Barry,

I know the place you mean; but I don't think it is the right environment for high-end furniture. It caters for tourists in search of a cute souvenir.

    Rocker,
You could either lower your standards or raise their's.

Rocker, I know you asked for galleries in the local area but have you considered Bungendore Wood Works. Having seen pix of your work I am sure David McLaren would have your work in his gallery. Also I believe one of your chairs is going into the Studio Furniture exhibition which will open at his Gallery so he will be aware of your capabilities. Of course there is the freight factor and you would have to work that into your price. Food for thought????

    Cheers

    Barry,

I have now entered two chairs into the competition; but I won't know until late November whether they have been shortlisted to go to Bungendore. But, If I am lucky enough to get a piece sent there, I hope it may mean that I can send more. Meanwhile, I shall have to send some over to England. SWMBO is not happy that there is hardly room to move in the house.

Rocker, maybe it's time for a holiday in southern NSW, pack a couple of chairs and take them down to show David, claim it on your tax?
