Wire Ballistrade
I have seen the balustrade made by bellinger wire recently and loved it. Unfortunatley I didn't love the price (about $200/m). About $10,000 for the deck. Timber slats are only $2000.
Has anyone tried / succeeded in making similar themselves and do you have any tips?
I am trying to avoid the horizontal stainless wire as I have young kids and a high deck is too much of a climbing problem. Timber blocks the view too much.
Again, I know this isn't the right section, but "decks" dicsussions seem to end up here.
Thanx
Paul

It looks like a simple weave and then 2 wires are twisted around themselves. A bit of experimentation to get the right amount of wire would be needed. And a lot of time, hence the price.

You could do stainless vertical using these "swage stud lag screw"
http://www.spec-net.com.au/links/link186.htm
The wire goes in the end and is crimped. you use one left and one right, making something like a turnbuckle.
$6.10 for the bits and $1 metre for wire would work out at $71 a metre at 100 mm spacing.
(No affiliation with the link, just teh first one I found when i googled)

Nice stuff...but if you like the look and can't afford the cost.....have you looked at using woven wire fencing panels? For example, when their website is working....www.wovenwire.com.au
Ours is not to reason why.....only to point and giggle.
