Should We Drop the Green & Gold Colours For Our Sports Teams?
Hi,
I was just listening to a sports show on the radio with a discussion on whether it was time to drop the old green & gold colours used by most of our sports teams?
It was said that most countries used the colour(s) of their flag, although I wouldn't necessarily agree with that. Given that there are a lot of people who think we should be a Republic then the colours in our present flag may not be around for that long. What about the colours of the aboriginal flag or do you have a better idea?

Why. Those colours are known world wide to be ours.

I think the question is posed the wrong way round
Should we change our flag colours to match our sporting colours, I'd like to see that

There is nothing wrong with our flag........except that bit in the upper corner........and the colour.......... and the federal star.......
Personally I like the aboriginal flag as its colours really represent Oz.
Add the southern cross and it would be good.
Another can opened.

Sounds like an absolute moot point.
What difference does it really make?'What the mind of man can conceive, the hand of a toolmaker can achieve.'
Owning a GPX250 and wanting a ZX10 is the single worst experience possible. -Aside from riding a BMW, I guess.

Actually, from Federation our National (& sporting) colours are supposed to be BLUE and Gold, not Green & Gold. Green & Gold was imposed by Robert Menzies aka Ming the Merciless - the bloke JH is trying to immitate.

My view, change the flag not the sporting colours.
THe best description I have heard of our flag is "England by night". I think it was Ben Elton.
A green and gold flag works for me, so does the Aboriginal flag with a southern cross inserted. Anything but England by night.
While we are at it, bring on the republic.

Perhaps a democratic republic, rather than the one proposed at the last referendum.

Oh dear, the green and gold isn't historically correct, it's only been with us for 50 years!!
What is it with you people? Why are you so insecure that you can't accept the history of this country, and all the decisions that were a part of it?
Ohhh dear, there's a union jack on our flag oooooohhhh. What are you afraid of? (apart from I mean! ) Hawaii's flag quite properly reflects its colonial past without this stupid insecurity!
If green and gold was good enough for Debbie Fintoff-King, it's good enough for me! (Unless we get a good deal from Nike or Coke or have some other really good reason to change of course).
Cheers,
P

Actually that's where you are probably quite wrong Gra, they produce heaps.
Millions and millions of dollars in wages, for security guys, ground staff, ice cream sellers, ice cream factory workers, need I mention the beer guys??
While many of the sports guys are fabulously overpaid, the spin off for the rest of us is enormous. Think of the busfares to one major sporting event alone, and translate that into house repayments for all the people working on the public transport routes!
That's without even talking about the drug manufacturers!
Cheers,
P
