Recall: Hitachi C12FSA Compound Mitre Saw
Have all you Hitachi owners seen this?
http://www.recalls.gov.au/view_recal..._ID_Auto=14737
"Product Info: This product was sold in all Australian states and territories between December 1997 and February 2007.
Defect Details: When the saw head is in its fully upright position, the self adjusting guard of the product does not completely enclose the lower portion of the blade unprotected by the fixed guard. In the event of improper or incorrect use by an operator, the current blade guard configuration does not provide optimum protection from the exposed portion of the blade.
Consumer action: Any owners should contact Hitachi Power Tools Australia's Customer Service Centre (phone no. 1800 100 600) to make arrangements for the fitting of a modification to the blade guard."
Cheers,
Andrew

I did not have proof of purchase (except the saw). Call the number on the Hitachi Power tools site and they will tell you what to do. I had to take mine to a Hitachi service agent to verify identity and qualification for recall. In my case A new one was then ordered. I kept th old one until the advised the new one was available then changed over.
