When you are laying floor tile or sheet goods in a bathroom or kitchen, how close to the walls can you go with the materials?

Assuming they are wood based products about 1/2" (12.5mm) gap all round to allow for expansion and to prevent buckling.

It rather depends on what the finished wall surface is. if its cement render I wouldn't get much closer than 300mm otherwise you tend to skin your knuckles. If its something smooth like plasterboard probably about 100mm is a good distance. However if you are using timber flooring products, whatever Tonz said sounds ok

woodworking quiz answer for 27 May 04
Good Morning Friends,
You are both correct in your answers. As 1/4 to 3/8" is sufficient and the fact that diagonal wood sub flooring is no longer used, sheet goods used for sub flooring has little or no movement.
Thank you for your support.
