Ubeaut Hard Shellac needed urgently in Sydney
I am in the middle of finishing a double bass, and i have run out of Hard Shellac, and need about half a bottle to complete.
There is none at Carbatec, Wood Eze or Trend, and I need it *urgently* as this instrument is to be used early next week
Has anyone in Sydney got a spare bottle I could buy or replace?

For refinishing the bass, its a useless heap of junk. I was hoping you wouldn't see that
The reservoir needs to be pretty full or else it spatters and spits.
Before I gave up, I wasted a good 300cc of varnish in overspray and getting the mist working properly, and then ended up with spatters and runs. I should have never listened to my bro, but hey, he meant well!
I sanded all the runs back and did the rest by hand using a nice brush.
I'm HOPING that the bottles of hard shellac Jim has sent will arrive today. Otherwise, i think I'm pretty stuffed if i want to get the thing playable by tuesday night. (Sydney, Seymour Centre, Sandy Evans Womens Jazz impro workshop final concert, $15.00)
Oh, the Ozito. Well it would probably be OK for spraying a wall or a boat or a shed or something like that.

I drove past the Lumber Bunker on my way to Sydney last night - could have been an option for the Hard Shellac
Addictive Pen Kits stock quite a few Ubeaut products also.
Cheers,

OK So now I need some help.
I've been building up the coloured "hard shellac" using a soft brush and working quickly so as not to pull off the base. This is tricky, but I'm in a hurry (bad, bad) and I'm needing to get somewhere fast. Why oh why did I set myself this goal with this finish??
My aim is to have a nice thick coat brushed on, then let it harden a couple of days, then finish with a rubber.
Well, its going OK except for a few runs which I can't "pull" out with a brush. And then, like a twit, I was manoeuvering the bass on its stand and managed to get a nasty scratch on one rib right down to the wood, and another chip about 6mm across in the top.
I feathered the edges of the chip with fine sandpaper, then have been tying to "fill" the bare wood with successive layers of shellac touched on with a matchstick, to match the surrounding thickness. But it keeps pulling towards the edges of the drop, with the surface tension causing a distinct ridge at the edges and virtually no buildup where I want it.
For the scratch, I have been trying to fill the valley with drops of shellac again touched on with a matchstick. This technique works with oil varnishes, but with this shellac it doesn't fill the hole, just softens at the edges and forms ridges.
Anyone know the trick to this? Please don't tell me I have to strip it all off and start again ...
