shed bathroom advice needed
Hi all,
I am putting in a small bathroom in the mezzanine in the shed that will house a shower, toilet and hand basin. The mezzanine floor is yellow tongue over steel RHS joists. The bathroom is framed in and I have the following questions if someone can help. The emphasis on construction will be low cost as the shed bathroom will only be used occasionally.
1. Flooring. I have read numerous posts on flooring (most refer to tiling)but would like to ask again about wet area flooring. I'll be putting lino down on the floor but what underneath the lino? Is lino good enough to keep the water off the timber floor underneath or does the floor need to be sealed? If so what would you recommend?
2. Walls. Do I just use villaboard for the walls? Does this need to be waterproofed or can it just be painted over. FYI The shower will use the wet area panelling and a curtain.
TIA

A mezzanine bathroom in the shed! Now that must be a first on this forum, or is it?
The regulations governing this sort of stuff is all about make sure that the shower base and floor will remain water tight for many years, and that walls will withstand high humidity, over many years. I take it that your bathroom wont be strictly to regualtions, and there wont be any serious consequences if not designed for frequent high traffic, so make it as best you can. Yes lino is waterproof, its up to you how well you seal all joins, and how much water you drip when drying off after a shower. Water resistant blue board is used in wet areas, it can be painted over with suitable paint. Also: Yellow tongue flooring is quite water resistant.

Remember to buy Vynil compatible floorgrates and leak control flanges, the cost a bit more but stop the water going under the lino.
If you dont play it, it's not an instrument!
