Restoring old chairs with my 2nd attempt of using shellac
Chair on the left is the existing condition of the suite. The chair on the right is my 2nd attempt to retore funiture using shellac.
Step 1: cleaning the chair using 0000 steel wool with methylated spirits
Step 2: applied first layer of shellac in a circular motion
Step 3: light rub back with 0000 steel wool
Step 4: applied second layer of shellac across all grain
Step 5: light rub back with 0000 steel wool
Step 6: applied third layer of shellac with the grain
Step 7: rubbed in light layer of parafin oil
Not aiming for a glass finish just to bring it back close to original condition.
