Default Looking for part time work with Cabinetmaker

I am 36 years old and have had a life long interest in woodworking. I have recently bought my own house and now have room to start a workshop, but having bought the house, I am now out of money for the required toys....oops, tools.

I have worked with several cabinetmakers in the past but now I have a full time job doing shiftwork. I would be available 3 - 5 hours a day in the afternoons. I could work just about anywhere, but why not do something I like and learn in the process.

I live in Mount Colah and would be looking for something reasonably local.

I hope this is the most relevant forum for this post and would look forward to hearing from someone.

    Thankyou.

Looks like I'm close to 100 hits but no responses as yet. Is there something I've left out or perhaps some advice on things I could try?

Well although there are a few pro furniture makers on this board, most of us are weekend wariors who just do it for a hobby. This might explain your lack of responses.

Why not check out the joinery shops in your area and see if any of them are looking for people?

    Hi King S

It might be a bit to late...but quite recently (this week or last week I think) I saw a position advertised in one of our local rags, cant remember wich one but it would have been "Hills News" or "Hills Times" for a part time cabinet maker in Pitt town(wouldnt be to much of a hike from Mt Colah). From memory they said they were open to people with out trade qualifications if you were keen and had some experience.

Sorry it wasnt Pitt town it was Rouse Hill. here is the link from My career

I would have crack at this myself...but Im not confident that stuffing around in the shed constitutes "experience"

    cheers
    BD

P.S. if you are sucessful I would like a finders fee
