    Default anchor post fixings

Gday all. I want to fix gal post stirrups down onto the edge of a concrete slab for a small pergola. I was going to use dynabolts but am worried that when i drill into the concrete near the egde, it will just break away. Any ideas or tips? cheers guys.

You wouldn't put them in the edge. I assume that you mean on the top, but close to the edge.

Keep the holes a minimum 50mm from the edge, and you could use a chemical anchor. They're a bit dearer than a dynabolt, but they don't hold by expansion so there's no chance of cracking the concrete as you tighten them up. I've had that happen a few times with expansion bolts near the corner of a slab..

Hi Mako, you may have already done the job by now but just in case you have not, I would suggest a screwbolt, it is as easy to use as drill and screw it in. It is not an expansion anchor like a dynabolt so it is less likely to crack the edge and it is not as messy as a chemical anchor.
Be aware that edge distance and spacing of the bolts has the effect of reducing the holding strength of the fixings by quite a bit.

    Cheers
    Alan
