Always use direct deposit, don't like giving credit card details over the internet. I have been told though that you cannot make a claim against ebay for reimbursement if something goes wrong using the direct deposit method. Don't know if that is true or not.
I only purchase from ebay sellers that have 100% positive feedback.Reality is no background music.

Reputable merchants - credit card
EBay - Australian sellers - I prefer bank transfer to their account (but it can be a bugger if they are not very good at reconciling the statement or they give you the wrong number - there is a fee for processing a return of a transfer transaction)
EBay - International sellers - I'm happy to use PayPal
No real problems to date - the only time I've had a prob with credit card fraud was when I personally used my card in Singapore and it started to be used to buy jewelery in Hong Kong (and that was in the day of paper inprinted card slips>>>)Cheers
