Hebel Block
Would anyone know if you used Hebel blocks for the outside cladding of a house whether you would still have to insulate the walls if you rendered both sides
I dont want to use plaster just render
Would I still get my four star rating as well
Great sight

Are you using the blocks only as cladding or do they form the entire wall? If the latter then the answer to your question is probably no. Because of the thickness of the block......if it's only a thin cladding block then insulation would be a good idea.
Have you read the Hebel block brochure? http://www.hebelaustralia.com.au/brochure/HEBEL/wHEB%20Blocks%202004.pdfOurs is not to reason why.....only to point and giggle.

If you study the brochure as mentioned by silentbutdeadly you'll see that what you mentioned is possible but you should talk to a designer about construction techniques so you get the most economical building method.
Although never using the Hebel system I have done a few single skin buildings using Besser block that have been very successful.
Life is like a novel with the last page missing.

hello,
typically a 200mm Hebel Thermoblock is used for a single skin load bearing wall
this could then be rendered on both sides, although I would hard plaster the inside to make a washable smooth surface
my understanding was any solid masonry wall >200mm thick (ie solid double brick, 200mm Hebel, core-filled concrete bloc) achieved the required insulation rating
when changed to star system I am not sure
thankyou
myla
