Post form tops
I am installing a kitchen, the tops are post form. What glue should i use to join them with, and should the joins be sealed with something?

I just replaced one of these with another one. THe old one was only joined with a bit of translucent silicone in addition to the bolts and biscuits, so I ran a bead of silicone on the new one before tightening it up. I'd guess that's the way to do it.

A good bead of silicone is a must for benchtop joins - and some adhesive put in there won't hurt either.
Technically those benchtop connectors provide all the required tension to keep the tops together, but a good PVA will help stop the tops creeping up and down.

Silicone was all I ever used and once it goes off it seems to stop any movement. Run your silicone in tighten up your connectors till the edges just come together and if your gentle you can use a rubber mallet to align the edges then tighten the connectors. I also try to screw down the benchtop close to the join. I dont know why but sawdust rubbed over the edge seems to clean off any silicone that comes out when the join is tightened.
Good luck
Never actually used adhesive before but it sounds like a good idea.Last edited by Glen; 21st July 2007 at 10:35 PM. Reason: Add more
