    Default Finishing timber windows

    Hi

I have just had the brickwork finished on our new house and there is a gap between the timber windows and the brickwork that I am intending to finish with some matching timber.

I was thinking about putting some insulation (foam strip perhaps) between the bricks and the windows before installing the strips.

Does anybody have any ideas on what would make a suitable insulation material?

    Cheers,
    Wassy

    Hi Wassy,

I have used Expander Foam (comes in a spray can) before and works well. Seals it up really good and works as a insulation.
Just lightly spray it in and then come back in a bit and cut any excess off.
When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep---not screeming, like the passengers in his car.

Its a good idea to seal the gap because I have seen bees enter the gaps in raked mortar joints and aluminium window frames to build a hive in the cavity, creating a hell of a problem.

    What width gap mate..?
Could possibly use expansion joint foam, bit easier than expanding foam, and site cleaner...

Sorry about taking so long but thank you to all who have provided some valuable advice.

I was debating between spray foam and foam strip. As the gap varies between 5 and 25mm I am going to try spray foam.

    Cheers
