Hey Kiwibrucee, you reckoned carrying a 9kg gas bottle was doing all right...
The beatings will continue until morale improves.

It's amazing what they can fit on a motorbike over there, I was stuned in Hanoi to see two adults four kids and two small plastic pushcars alight from the one scooter and proceed to make the most of the open space in a large plaza. Other than that some owners seem to put more on a bike than you would expect to on a ute over here.John.

I say a guy carrying a large fridge on a trishaw type thing in Saigon. He had a mate stood up behind him telling which way to go.
Of course we do similar stuff in the NT, just like the guy in the photo, but it's got to be worth while, like with an esky full of .
Regards

The 2 best I've seen: (sorry, no camera)
One of those old french mopeds, (a peddle motorcycle) pulled up outside, 2 doors down, where they were renovating. He had 4 x 6' Cyclone scaffold frames, 4 braces and 3 12' planks tied to its sides. When he pulled up, he couldn't get off the bike because it was all balanced and highly unstable. The poor bastard sat there, legs outstretched to balance the thing, blowing the horn and yelling out for someone to come and unload it, but they were to far away to hear. This was in central Hanoi. I have great respect for this mans achievement!
I owned a Minsk. Bought it brand new in Hai Phong in 1996 for $600. Then I learned they don't make new Minsks They only make old ones!
We've had 5 on it, but 5 people on a Minsk limits top speed to about 20 - 30 k, so its not as bad as it sounds.
2nd best I saw was a Minsk with the rider, his mate on the back with his broken down Minsk upside down accross the bike between them. This was on the main highway and they were in a hurry.Last edited by Blocklayer; 22nd May 2007 at 09:58 PM. Reason: grama

The many uses of a motorcycle
Hanoi November 2005.
Photo 1: 9 drums roughly 20 litres each makes the load about 180 kg.
Photos 2-4: the versatile bike, good for moving the family, moving house or just a place to crash.Last edited by Peter57; 22nd May 2007 at 11:35 PM. Reason: Typos
