Default Hard Shellac or Danish Oil

I've just finished my first real finishing job. I used hard shellac and then waxed. Made a few blues but in the end got the hang of it and would be happy to have another crack. Looked pretty good. Haven't tested it for durability.

My next projects are going to be dining table and chairs. I would like to get the same look as I have just got but wanted to get the most durable finish. What would be more durable, Danish oil or hard shellac? I have never used danish oil but it sounds good and easy to apply. From everything I read here hard shellac is pretty tough.

They actually provide rather different finishes in appearance and as well each will differ according to the timber you apply it to.

Hard shellac will be durable and give you a sheen that sits on the surface. DO sits in the timber and gives you more of a soft glow. You can get a higher lustre with it though by wet sanding.
    Cheers, Ern
